Eoin Duffy is an animation director whose work is marked by unusual restraint, formal clarity, and emotional exactness. He builds films that feel highly distilled rather than overstated, with a visual language that remains minimal in surface yet deeply precise in effect. What distinguishes his practice is not scale, but control — the ability to shape atmosphere, rhythm, and feeling with exceptional economy.

His short film The Missing Scarf advanced to the final 10 shortlist for the 86th Academy Awards for Best Animated Short Film, alongside recognition from the European Film Awards, the Canadian Screen Awards, and festivals internationally. For us, his significance lies not only in those distinctions, but in the rigor of his authorship. He represents the kind of rare artistic practice we are interested in placing in conversation with the wider CHiEEN universe.

The Missing Scarf

Director & Animator

The Missing Scarf follows Albert the Squirrel on a simple search that gradually expands into a black-comic meditation on common fears—failure, rejection, and the unknown. The film blends tactile 3D with flat 2D, borrowing its palette and overprint sensibility from print design to create a deceptively warm forest world. The short advanced to the Academy Awards’ final-10 shortlist for Best Animated Short Film.
